Easter Traditions

Traditions are important. Some of my most precious memories are traditions from my childhood. This includes the "Easter Bunny." For as long as I can remember, we had this purple bunny that my daddy would blow up. I am so happy to pass on that tradition to my children. (Sorry that some of the pictures are too blurry. My children sometimes move too fast for me to keep up.)
Notice the static in her hair. LOL
Hers too.

Another tradition we have is to dye easter eggs. Little Bit loved it and had a lot of fun with it. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures.

We also have Easter dresses and baskets, but since Dale and I are sick, we'll probably hold off another week on the dresses.

Sweet Pea's Birthday

Sweet Pea turned 9 this St. Patrick's Day. Hip Hip Hurray. Nonnie came for a visit, which is always a good thing.
The day started out bright and early, with a quick visit to Cargo Largo. (Nonnie has a love of bargain hunting.) Then we went to the mall, where Nonnie bought her an Easter dress.

Then we were off to Libby Lu for the grand surprise. Sweet Pea was getting a makeover. A full head to toes Hannah Montana makeover. Doesn't she look excited and just down right cute?
Putting on the wig.
Getting hairsprayed.
Picking out accessories.
Nonnie decided that we weren't quite through and took Sweet Pea to Build-A-Bear Workshop for a new stuffed animal, that she promptly named Lola. Oh, and Lola got a Hannah Montana outfit, too.
Then it was off to the Crayola Cafe for lunch with Daddy. Very interesting place, and I would love to go back when they aren't so crowded from the St. Patrick's Day parade.
Then we came home for birthday presents, birthday cake, ice cream and pizza for dinner. And don't forget makeovers for Nonnie, Mommy, and Little Bit.

And don't worry. Little Bit had her fun, too. Yep, it was a good day. Happy Birthday Sweetie. I love you.

We're taking a break

I know. I've had a long enough break already. But we've been hit with the flu bug. First Sweet Pea, now Little Bit. I'm tired and last night, Dale was coughing.

I don't like being sick. For now, I'm going to take a break and just concentrate on getting our happy family better.

WFMW

So it's time for another Works for me Wednesday, the day where I share my useful tips with you, and spend way too much time reading everyone else's tips. (LOL)

Do you remember the saying, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." My Sweet Pea (who will be 9 on Monday 8O) loves her apples. I think she has had an apple every single day of her life since she was 1 and a half, with very few exceptions. (I just calculated. That's roughly 2750 apples.)

I'm getting sidetracked. Anyway, Little Bit has also come to like apples. She's no where nearly as enthused as Sweet Pea. But to make life easier for everyone, I use this. ***drum roll please***

A handy dandy Apple Wedger (picture is from the Pampered Chef website). I can "cut" Little Bit's apple into manageable sizes, and I don't have to worry about her swallowing seeds.

And a side benefit.... I also use it to cut potatoes into bite size pieces when making Granny's Potato Soup recipe. :D (Thanks to Unclutterer, I try not to have unitasker items in my kitchen. I have a few, but I'm working on it.)

Well, that's what Works For Me, and now.... I have to go do laundry. :( Hopefully, my next post will be about the disappearing 9 patch I've been working on.

Steel Magnolias

You know, I love my family. Thanks to my cousin, I had an itch to watch Steel Magnolias again. Let me tell ya now... Don't watch it alone. I've cried more in the past hour than the past six months. It's sort of a hard movie to watch when your dad has had a kidney transplant, and you watched your mom slip into a coma and then pass away.

But it was sort of therapeutic in a way as well. I guess if I'm ever asked to play the part of M'lynn, I'll be ready, because, "Life goes on."

Time for National Treasure. :)

Hmm... I wonder if this is a GOOD thing.

Okay, so who is going to admit to using the spell checker on this one? Not me.

Proper spelling and proper names count on this one. I had at least 4 others that didn't make the list, including the United Kingdom, which I tried as England and Great Britain.

Uh... okay?

WFMW - Backwards

Okay, today is a backwards edition of Works For Me Wednesday. It's where I ask a question, and you help me figure out the answer.

This is my problem. The love of my life and I will have been married for 11 years this coming Saturday. He is taking off a half day of work on Friday, and we are going to take our girls to the babysitter.

What do we do next? I know it sounds odd, but with him being in the Army for 5 years, with being having major financial troubles last year, we just haven't ever really celebrated our anniversary.

We know that we want to go out to eat at the fancy restaurant inside the new Bass Pro Shop that just opened up. (It's my gift to him.) And Saturday, we are getting family pictures made. (That's his gift to me.)

But what do we do on Friday? He's going to be off a whole half day, and I have no idea what we're going to do. We live in Kansas City, so I thought, maybe we could go to the art museum without the children (he wrinkled his nose at that), or the zoo (too cold). Maybe we could just drive around and look at houses (gas is $3 a gallon).

So, what is your favorite anniversary memory? And what would you do to spend time with your honey that was fun for both of you and reasonably cheap to free? :D
